As part of the Battle Physical, Mental and Survival Training module within the Erasmus programme at the Hellenic Military Academy in Greece, SGT Cosmin Ciocan, SGT Antonia Lixandru, Cadet SFC Alexandra Guțu, Cadet SGM Flavius Cărăvan, and Cadet CPL Mihai Budiu, from “Nicolae Bălcescu” Land Forces Academy in Sibiu, took part in one of the most renowned running events in the world—the Athens Marathon.
This year’s 41st edition brought together over 70,000 runners from across the globe. Our colleagues once again demonstrated dedication, perseverance, adaptability, and teamwork, successfully completing an ostensibly impossible challenge: a 42.195 km race on a demanding course featuring numerous uphill sections.
“This race is a symbol of determination and endurance—a physical challenge, but also an exercise in willpower and resilience. We ran to honour the legendary Athens Marathon, initiated by a heroic act nearly 2,500 years ago. Thus, we not only pay tribute to our past but also strengthen our present, proving that for us, military personnel, the spirit of sacrifice and determination remain just as relevant today. It is essential to push our limits to the extreme, confront our fears, and strengthen not only our bodies and minds but also our spirits,” stated Captain Darius Sporiș, the team coordinator, marathon runner, and an officer for whom long-distance running has become a true passion.
Congratulations to all participants!
SEMPER UNA!
