The first-year students took part in the firings and demonstration exercises with individual infantry weapons and equipment of the fighter subunits on Thursday, September 5, 2024, in the automated firing range at Poplaca. The exercises were organized by the Military Training Centre of “Nicolae Bălcescu” Land Forces Academy of Sibiu and were carried out both during the day and at night by the third-year students along with the soldiers from the Special Operations Forces.
The purpose of the firing demonstration was to expose first-year students to the technical-tactical features of several infantry weapons, their potential for use in combat, as well as some external ballistics elements through actual firing.
In a joint tactical exercise with two Romanian Air Forces IAR 330 PUMA SOCAT aircraft, Special Operations Forces soldiers demonstrated operational procedures including air infiltration, assault tactics, cleaning and securing an objective, respectively providing first aid under enemy fire. The aerial exfiltration, along with the aviation show, coordinated by the JTAC (Joint Terminal Attack Controller) within the operational detachment Alpha that executed the tactical moment, served as the exercise finale.
The first-year students will depart for the Perii Dăii training ground on the last day of this week, where they will spend four weeks completing the military skills training module.
