EUMACS 2024 European Military Academies Commanders' Seminar
During the period 03-07 June 2024, the commander (rector) of "Nicolae Bălcescu" Land Forces Academy of Sibiu, BG Prof. Eng. Ghiță Bârsan, PhD and vice-rector for programs and international relations, col. Prof. Vasile Căruțașu, PhD together with other commanders and representatives of military academies in the European Union, participated in the 15th edition of the Seminar of Commanders of Military Academies in the European Union (EUMACS 2024), an event hosted by the Royal Military Academy in Brussels, Belgium.
EUMACS is an annual event organized by one of the military academies in the country that holds the presidency of the European Union. Its main objective is to inform commanders, rectors, and superintendents of military higher education institutions in the European Union about discussions related to military education at the Implementation Group and European Security and Defense College levels. Through these working meetings, the aim is to identify the most effective ways of communication among military academies in Europe regarding the training of young officers and strengthen cooperative relations among them.
The discussions of this year' s edition focused on four topical areas. Thus, the concept of leadership that military students learn was analyzed along with the way it corresponds to the training needs of future European officers. An attempt was made to identify the optimal methods of integrating artificial intelligence and cyber elements in the training of young officers and ways of adapting the curricula of the European military academies regarding drone warfare. Another topic of discussion was "Generation Z" and the challenges of recruiting candidates to pursue a military career.
The conclusions resulting from the treatment of these topics led to the identification of possible solutions that, if effectively implemented, will improve the personal and military training of future European officers.
