LFA Military Officer, the 1st Place in Cycling Competitions
Our colleague, col. Codrut Galaftion, is the one who hoists the national flag on „the roof of Romania”, Moldoveanu Peak, every year on the Army Day. His passion for sports is manifested not only in the military environment; he has exceptional results in the cycling competitions, as well. Aged 47, he managed to win the 1st place in Sibiu Cycling Tour for two of the related competitions of this sport event, addressed to amateurs: the „Sponsor Race” and „King Of The Mountain”.
The „Sponsor Race” offered the participants the opportunity to experience the sensations of a professional competition, the race taking place in an individually timed and arbitrated driveway mode on a 13,8 km route closed to traffic, for which our colleague won the 1st place in „over 45” men’s individual competition.
The road climbing and the off-road competition in Paltinis called „King Of The Mountain” is unique in Romania, the cyclist fighting with himself to get the best time on a 15 km climb, with an average slope of 5% and areas of 14%. After finishing on the second place in the same competition, a year earlier, climbing Calugaru Hill, this year, col. Codrut Galaftion won the 1st place and received the title „King of the Mountain Off-Road”, wearing the white T-shirt with red dots (the distinctive sign of the best climbers who rule the mountains).
Also, in June, he won the 7th edition of the cycling competition called „Criterion of Spring” for the „over 35” age group, organized by Aria Sports Club in Sibiu. The competition is a road cycling one, which takes place in conditions of restricted road traffic, on a 19 km route in individual time trial.
