The "Fight in Built up Area" International Training Module
A delegation of the "Nicolae Balcescu" Land Forces Academy, made up of CDT SSG Vlad Daniel Mosneag and CDT CPL Stefan Petre and coordinated by SGT MAJ Marius Bacila participated, between October 13-25, in the "Fight in Built up Area" International Training Module, organized by the National Defense Academy of Riga, Latvia.
The event, attended by 19 cadets from Austria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania, took place in two stages, the theoretical one, which lasted one day, and the practical one, which lasted seven days. The main activities specific to the module were aimed at forming the skills of planning and conducting offensive and defensive operations in urban environment, at group and platoon level, at planning and integrating elements of combat support in the urban environment and the ability to use CQB (close quarter battle) skills, in a most realistic environment.
“For me the Latvian military module was one of the most beautiful and challenging experiences I have had so far. Ever since the beginning of the practical part of the module, which took place in the city of Skrunda, a city abandoned after the disintegration of the USSR, we were continuously subjected to physical and mental effort by the Latvian instructors. During the first days we learned individual techniques of entering buildings, of "cleaning" a room, of moving through corridors and of climbing from one level to another in buildings. My group consisted of 12 soldiers, two Poles, two Lithuanians, seven students from the Latvian academy, and me. The barricade was the most challenging physical form of training, and that was because we carried hundreds of sandbags to consolidate fighting positions, we surrounded the building with barbed wire to prevent enemies from approaching and we barricaded the doors and windows in order to facilitate the conduct of the interior defense. This experience proved to be very close to the reality of the battlefield, a fight during which there can be no moment when we can relax”, said CDT SSG Vlad Daniel Mosneag.
