Students and military staff from the "Nicolae Balcescu" Land Forces Academy honored the invitation of the Greek military Academy to participate, this month, in the traditional "Leonidas Trophy " race, held in tribute to those who sacrified themselves in the Battle of Thermopylae.
On 22 September, the athletes of our institution attended the 25 km- mountain-run race that took place on the route of the Anopea path (the one believed to have been taken by the Persian army to encircle the Greek positions at Thermopylae), at the end of which they reached the first steps of the podium.
The competition was attended by 400 runners from Greece, Italy, Canada and Romania. The one who crossed the first the finish line was the representative of our institution, cadet Cpl. Tudor Ilade, who managed to cover the entire distance in a record time of one hour, 29 minutes and 29 seconds. The second place was occupied by MSG Francisc Sarosi, with the time of one hour, 32 minutes and 41 seconds.
In the overall female ranking, the first place was taken by our colleague, MSG Ileana Ianosiu-Hangan, with the time of one hour, 55 minutes and 12 seconds, followed, on the second place, by a representative of Greece, the podium being completed by PFC Bianca Suhareanu, with the time of one hour, 58 minutes and 38 seconds.
Due to these results, the athletes were invited to also attend the Athens Classic Marathon, which will be held on 10 November.
Congratulations to our colleagues for their efforts and for the results obtained!
Semper una!
