THE GREAT COMPOSER KAROL PADIVY’S SON, VISITING THE LAND FORCES ACADEMY

The "Nicolae Balcescu" Land Forces Academy of Sibiu had as a guest Mr. Jaroslav Pádivý, the great Slovak composer Karol Pádivý’s son, who, during 1926 and 1928, acted as a musician in the 90th Infantry Regiment and was a collaborator of the Philharmonic of Sibiu, being the author of the emblematic march of Sibiu.

After a career in education for 32 years, Mr. Jaroslav Pádivý has devoted all his activity to collecting, retranscribing and publishing his father's musical works in famous publishers in Austria and Germany, the musical pieces of Karol Pádivý being performed both in Europe and in Canada.

There were two reasons for this visit: firstly, the desire to pay tribute to the Romanian military in the Fourth Army, who in April 1945 sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Trenčín and, secondly, the desire to visit the town where his father confessed to him that he had spent the happiest years of his life, a town in which he began to compose. The great composer’s son said that "due to the Sibiu military music as an institution in which a country boy became a composer, his father's works are nowadays being played all over the world."

During today's visit, attended by the director of the philharmonic, Mr. Cristian Lupes, Mr. Jaroslav Pádivý offered his father's manuscripts to the academy, including the March of Sibiu. In turn, the rector of the institution, BG Prof. Eng. Ghita Barsan, PhD, bestowed on the distinguished guest the emblem of the Land Forces Academy.
