Between 12 and 15 June, the "Nicolae Balcescu” Land Forces Academy hosted the European Union Military Academies Commandants' Seminar (EUMACS 2019).
The event, whose official opening ceremony took place on Thursday, June 13, brought together commandants and representatives of 27 higher education institutions from 16 European countries. It was also attended by the Director of the European Security and Defense College, Mr. Dirk Dubois, the Chairman of the Implementation Group, COL Assoc. Prof. Harald Gell, PhD, the Chief of the Defense Staff, GEN Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca, the Chief of the Land Forces Staff, MAJ GEN Ovidiu-Liviu Uifaleanu, the Financing Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation (UEFISCDI), Prof. Eng. Adrian Curaj, PhD, and members of the academic community from Sibiu and other Romanian cities.
EUMACS 2019 provided a good opportunity to identify solutions to the current problems and concerns of the European higher education institutions in terms of: increased mobility in the context of generalizing the Bologna process, mutual recognition of the outcomes of professional training exchanges, development of national educational opportunities for the young European officers, and a better use of the Erasmus mobility for students and teaching staff.
