Today, May 3, Sibiu Military Circle will be the host of the symposium organized by the “Nicolae Balcescu” Land Forces Academy in collaboration with the local public authorities, the “Lucian Blaga” University and the Transylvanian Association for Romanian Literature and the Culture of the Romanian People (Astra). Thus, the event will mark in advance the triple anniversary of 9 May: Romania’s State Independence Day, the European Union Day and the Victory Day of the United Nations Coalition in the World War II.
The event started with the speeches of the local public officials, who emphasized the importance of this day for the history of Europe and our country. Next, Prof. Ioana Cretu, PhD, Vice-President of the Astra Association, presented “The Reflection of the War of Independence in Romanian Literature”, Col.Asst. Prof. Florin Sperlea, PhD, editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Observatorul Militar” (Military Observatory), discussed about “The Significance of 9 May 1945,” and Lt.Asst.Prof. Anamaria Sarbu, PhD, presented the scientific paper entitled “May 9 – the Birthday of the European Union.” The symposium ended with the paper “The Military Relevance of the European Union,” presented by Cpt.Asst.Prof. Marius Pricopi, PhD.
