The Land Forces Academy, the Host of the Official Awarding of the Title of European Region of Gastronomy 2019 by the Regions of Sibiu and South Aegean

On Tuesday, February 12, the “Nicolae Balcescu” Land Forces Academy of Sibiu, member of the Sibiu European Region of Gastronomy 2019 Consortium, organization that also consists ofthe Sibiu County Council, the Sibiu City Hall, the Medias City Hall, the Sibiu Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, the “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu and the County Tourism Association in Sibiu, was the host of the official awarding ceremony of the title of European Region of Gastronomy 2019 to Sibiu and South Aegean regions of Greecefrom the regions that had held it in 2018 – Galway in Ireland and North Brabant in the Netherlands.

The event began in the auditorium in the presence of the members of the military academic community of Sibiu, of local, regional and national guests, and of about 200 citizens of Sibiu. It continued on the parade ground of the institution with the ceremony of the raising of the flags of the European Union, Greece, Romania, alongside with those of Sibiu and South Aegean, European Regions of Gastronomy, and with musical moments offered by the Military Brass Band of the Land Forces Academy, by a group of folk music artists, and a live-cooking session, one of the most awaited moments of the evening.

Famous chefs cooked culinary specialties for everyone present at the event, and “the military menu” did not miss from the list of served dishes, a reinterpreted menu, consisting of: beans with pork shank, cooked in the infantry cauldron under the “enemy’s pressure,” cabbage with sausagesand Transylvanian bacon “in infantry rucksack” and melted with red onion, macaroni with cow cheese, walnut and cinnamon, cooked with sugar and milk in a canteen and so on.
